چکیده

Walking is the most sustainable means of daily travel for short trip distances and a key component overall transport system. This paper documents variation in walking rates among countries, cities same country, different parts city. Our international analysis official government statistics shows that are highest trips, higher women than men, decline with increasing income, remain constant as age increases. fatality much USA compared other countries we examined, both per capita km walked. Government policies would increase while improving pedestrian safety include: integrated networks safe convenient infrastructure; roadways intersections designed needs pedestrians; land-use regulations encourage mixed uses distances; lower city-wide speed limits traffic calming residential neighborhoods; reduced supply increased price parking; laws give priority to improved education motorists non-motorists; tax surcharges on large personal vehicles; strict enforcement against drink distracted driving. Five decades success these many European provide practical examples car-oriented follow, especially North America.

Walking, cycling, and obesity rates in Europe, North America, and Australia.

PURPOSE This study was designed to examine the relationship between active transportation (defined as the percentage of trips taken by walking, bicycling, and public transit) and obesity rates (BMI > or = 30 kg . m-2) in different countries. METHODS National surveys of travel behavior and health indicators in Europe, North America, and Australia were used in this study; the surveys were condu...

Safety in numbers in Australia: more walkers and bicyclists, safer walking and bicycling.

ISSUE ADDRESSED Overseas research shows that fatality and injury risks per cyclist and pedestrian are lower when there are more cyclists and pedestrians. Do Australian data follow the same exponential 'growth rule' where (Injuries)/(Amount of cycling) is proportional to ((Amount of cycling)-0.6)? METHOD Fatality and injury risks were compared using three datasets: 1) fatalities and amounts of...

Safety in numbers: more walkers and bicyclists, safer walking and bicycling.

OBJECTIVE To examine the relationship between the numbers of people walking or bicycling and the frequency of collisions between motorists and walkers or bicyclists. The common wisdom holds that the number of collisions varies directly with the amount of walking and bicycling. However, three published analyses of collision rates at specific intersections found a non-linear relationship, such th...

Kinematics of Hip, Knee and Ankle During Cross- Slope Walking

Purpose: Little information is available on joint kinematic adaptations during walking on cross-slope surfaces (i.e. a surface incline perpendicular to the direction of locomotion). This study aimed to evaluate the effects of cross-slope surfaces on three-dimensional (3D) kinematics of hip, knee, and ankle joints during stance phase of walking.  Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study...
